Appliance Warranty is a Must
A used appliance warranty is a must! Things to look for in a warranty:
- How long does it last?
- What does it cover? Parts AND Labor?
- What is the return policy of thw warranty?
These are the most important questions to ask. I would hate for you to go somewhere, see something you LOVE, and find out it has no warranty. You can take your chances but I would say move on. There are plenty of other companies out there who would love your business and will offer you a warranty as well. What's the use if it's beautiful and stops working the second day? So make sure there is a used appliance warranty.
Next, what kind of shape is it in? Does it have dents or scratches? Is there any rust? Do the knobs all work? Are all of the racks and shelves there? Are the hinges on the door supportive? Check the gaskets on refrigerators. (Do this by closing the door on a piece of paper. Is the paper easy to remove? If so the hinges need adjusting.) Check for insulation on ranges. How do the doors open? Easily? Or difficult? Try to test drive the appliance at the place of purchase or as soon as it gets to your home to avoid any return troubles if you need to return it. Inspect the product thoroughly before buying and once youg et it home.
Also, make sure the appliance comes with everything you need to install it. Some appliances require new parts such as power cords and ducts, these items range anywhere from $7 to $20, and aren't difficult to install yourself.
Finally, How much does it cost to operate? This is very important! An appliance might seem cheap initially, but the cost of running it can really wear your pocket out. Get EnergyStar appliances to cut costs.
So again, check out the cost of operation. You can take the model number and call the manufacturer or check online at their site for their
EnergyGuide
rating. Of course you want something that is inexpensive to operate; savings in utilities could possibly pay for the appliance itself over time!
That's pretty much it. As long as you take your time and make a checklist of things to look for before you shop, you should be in good shape; and if you're buying from a reputable dealer that offers a good warranty, you can buy with more peace.
