TRIVECTION QUESTION:
Question: Well, I have my new trivection oven. I have tried speedbake for scones twice (2 different recipes)and found that it actually took longer than the regular recipe calls for, not half the time, as the maufacturer claims. I made brownies in the regular mode, since the directions recommended against anything else. That, too, seemed to take longer than it should. It sounds like the thermostat may be off, so I plan to get a thermometer to test it. My question is, how do I test the speedbake part? Is it possible that it is not working at all? What exactly is happening when it is on "speedbake"? A friend told me that sometimes it takes ovens a while to "learn" how to work. Is that true?
Answer: I have never heard of an oven needing to learn how to work. It definitely should not be the case with an advanced oven with trivection technology. I bought a microwave from GE with trivection technology for my mother a couple of years back when it first came out. I agree, in some instances the "speedbake" actually takes longer than baking it regularly. It just depends on what it is you're baking. Here's one way to find out if it's working properly, get some pillsbury cookies from the grocery store; the kind already sectioned off and speedbake those. They should take 9 - 10 minutes to bake keep an eye on them and stop it when they turn golden brown, take them out immediately and they should be perfect! Just let them cool about 1 or 2 minutes and then mail them to me :-D If they aren't perfect than call the manufacturer. Lastly, when it's on speedbake, it's using a combination of baking and microwaving, all while the hot air is being blown around evenly by the fan. It claims to cook faster because microwaves move molecules INSIDE the food around really fast, making them rub against eachother to create heat from within the food. Baking cooks from the OUTSIDE. So this is why those cookies should come out perfect! The only thing I've ever used speedbake for is cookies and fries. I tried it on a pot pie and ummmm well, some things you just HAVE to bake lol. Just like some things you have to microwave. like TV dinners (not good in trivection microwaves BTW) Hope this helps!
